DEFINITIONS of Competitions and Event Types
String: is a single
segment, or type of activity, that
its procedure or conditions are unvaried and do not change from the start of
the activity until the prescribed time for the activity has elapsed.
Example of this is shooting 10 shots slow fire, or 10 shots rapid fire - but not
5 shots slow then 5 shots rapid (this would be 2 seperate strings).
Course of Fire: is a structured sequence of strings run by operating rules. A "course of fire" is used to form a match.
Match: is 1 or more Strings, typically a “course of fire” where the results are ranked into placings.
Event or Meet: is a single important, or substantial, organised activity that may be made up of either 1 or more Matches. Competitions, for each rifle class, could be considered “Events”, however events do not have to be "Competitions" or “Championships” as they may be for fun, practice, testing, grading, qualification, training, etc..
Competition: is defined as a contest, governed and controlled by rules, procedures, standards of conduct, operation, activity and participation, where shooters strive together to claim a prize or a reward such as titles, rankings, qualification, classification, trophies, etc. A competition may be an Event that is a Match, Championship, Tournament Series.
Championship or Tournament: is a scheduled competition that is carried out to determine a champion. A Championship, or Tournament, may be made up of 1 or more Matches or Competitions.
Series: consists of multiple competitions, championships, tournaments, or events. A Series may also come from the result of a League.
League: is a competition between various clubs and associations (typically teams, not individuals) united under a common body or rules, for the purpose of competing for a ranking.
